Every fall, I crave twisty thrillers and cozy nights — and honestly, no one does creepy, page-turning thrillers like my OG Bookstagram BFF, Amy from @NovelGossip.
I first met Amy back when Bookstagram was all about flat lays and thriller stacks, and she quickly became my go-to person for finding hidden gem reads that keep me guessing. She reads it all — from the buzzy trad-pub releases to those indie Kindle Unlimited thrillers that sneak up and take over your weekend.
So when I decided to bring back one of my favorite episodes from 2023, I knew this list would still hold up. All of these titles are backlist books you can easily find at your library or through KU — and they’re just as binge-worthy in 2025 as they were two years ago.

Why I Trust Amy’s Recs
Amy is one of those readers who can spot a hidden gem from miles away. While most of us were stuck on the latest Riley Sager or Lisa Jewell release (no shade, we love them too), she was deep in the KU archives or finding indie thrillers that deserved way more hype.
Whenever I’m in the mood for a creepy husband, an unreliable narrator, or a too-good-to-be-true neighbor, Amy’s my first call. She always delivers something fast-paced, twisty, and unputdownable — the kind of book you start on a Friday night and finish by Sunday morning.
The Books We Still Recommend
The September House by Carissa Orlando

When a couple buys their dream Victorian home, they discover it becomes haunted every September — blood on the walls, ghosts in the halls, and one determined wife who refuses to move out. It’s creepy, clever, and surprisingly funny.
Why I still love it: It nails that balance between horror and humor, and the audiobook narrator captures the main character’s dry wit perfectly.
📚 Haunted House • Dark Humor • Psychological Horror • Audiobook Favorite
The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James

A true crime blogger lands the interview of a lifetime when she sits down with a woman acquitted of two murders back in the 1970s. But the more she digs, the more she realizes some ghosts refuse to stay buried.
Why I still love it: Simone St. James always gets the balance between mystery and supernatural chills just right — and her fall atmospheres are unmatched.

Where the Blame Lies by Mia Sheridan

A young woman survives a brutal kidnapping — only to discover, years later, that a new body has turned up under eerily similar circumstances. Enter the detective determined to help her uncover the truth.
Why I still love it: This one surprised me. I’ve always known Mia Sheridan for emotional romances, but her turn into dark romantic suspense totally worked for me.
📚 Romantic Suspense • Dark & Gritty • Psychological Thriller • Audiobook Binge
We’re All Lying by Marie Still

A wife discovers her husband’s affair when the mistress starts taunting her — and then the mistress disappears. Suddenly, everyone’s lying, and nobody’s safe.
Why I still love it: It’s pure popcorn drama. Cheating, gaslighting, and suburban secrets — everything I want from a weekend thriller binge.
📚 Domestic Thriller • Multiple POVs • Popcorn Read • Twisty Secrets
The Wife Before by Shanora Williams

A whirlwind romance, a quickie marriage, and a husband with a mysterious dead wife — what could possibly go wrong? This one reads like a soap opera in thriller form, and I loved every second of it.
Why I still love it: It’s fast, juicy, and perfect for when you just want to escape. Shanora writes with the same addictive pacing as Freida McFadden and A.R. Torre.
📚 Fast-Paced • Domestic Suspense • Soap Opera Vibes • KU Favorite
What I Love About These Thrillers
These books might come from 2023, but they still hold up because they all share something in common: they’re fast, engaging, and easy to fall into.
When I’m in a reading slump or need to reset between heavy reads, I always reach for thrillers like these — the ones that give me a little bit of everything: gossip, secrets, and a good dose of escapism.
Some of my favorite thriller tropes you’ll find here:
- Haunted houses with hidden histories
- Women reclaiming their power
- The “is-he-lying-or-am-I-paranoid” husband
- Quick-chapter page-turners you can read in one sitting
Where to Find Them
All of these titles are available through your library, Libby app, or Kindle Unlimited — so they’re easy to borrow and budget-friendly.
