Over the past few months, I have seem to be reading within a genre of political books. Some of the books are set during the Obama era and one book is set during the Trump administration. Here are my mini-book reviews.
I do mentioned The Hopefuls and Charlotte Walsh Likes to Win in my August what I am currently reading podcast. You can listen here!
I read this book at the beginning of the year. This book follows Jane who when she was in her 20s she was involved in an affair similar to Monica Lewinsky. Jane changes her name and moves to a different city. She has a precocious daughter and Jane decides to run for office. This is a great story that is told by 4 POV. My favorite POV was from Jane’s daughter and the wife of the man that Jane had the affair with. If you like women’s fiction then you should pick this book up.
This book is set in 2018 as Charlotte Walsh a tech executive decides to move back to her hometown to run for senate. This book dives into the world of politics, what it’s like for woman to run for office. Charlotte is not a perfect candidate and she made big mistakes but she was a character that I admire. I would totally vote for her.
This book is set during the Obama administration. This books is about a marriage and a friendship that becomes too toxic with jealousy, competition, and gossip. This span all 8 years of the Obama administration. This book dives into the marriage and how ambition can make an impact. This book brought me nostalgia about what it was like to have Obama as our president.
This is a memoir set during 2011-2017 by an Obama administration sternographer. Beck gets the job after answering a Craigslist ad. This memoir reads like fiction. We follow her as she travels with the President. There is some romance and a toxic relationship. I really loved this memoir. It’s a must read.
