From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake comes a new story in her Masters and Mercenaries series…
A second chance at first love
Years before Wade Rycroft fell in love with Geneva Harris, the smartest girl in his class. The rodeo star and the shy academic made for an odd pair but their chemistry was undeniable. They made plans to get married after high school but when Genny left him standing in the rain, he joined the Army and vowed to leave that life behind. Genny married the town’s golden boy, and Wade knew that he couldn’t go home again.
Could become the promise of a lifetime
Fifteen years later, Wade returns to Broken Bend, Texas for his brother’s wedding and walks into a storm of scandal. Genny’s marriage has dissolved and the town has turned against her. But when someone tries to kill his old love, Wade can’t refuse to help her. In his years after the Army, he’s found his place in the world. His job at McKay-Taggart keeps happy and busy but something is missing. When he takes the job watching over Genny, he realizes what it is.
As danger presses in, Wade must decide if he can forgive past sins or let the woman of his dreams walk into a nightmare….
**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**
Masters and Mercenaries is one of my favorite series of all time. I have read pretty much all of the books, the spin-offs and crossover novellas.
This is the latest novella in the Master and Mercenary world for a while. We are getting a spinoff series over the next few months which I shall be reading as I want to know what happened in Munich.
Protected follows Wade Rycroft a side character in the Master and Mercenary world. He was the Dom in Residence at Sanctum, he was the bodyguard at Say You Won’t Let Go book. In this story, Wade comes back to his hometown and reconnects with his high school girlfriend, Genny.
There is story is not as straight forward as Genny was married off to a psychopath who is now in jail but plans to return and take what is his. Therefore Genny is looking for protection.
This story is about growth and being able to rebuild your life after a terrible relationship. Trigger Warnings: Domestic Violence I love that this story focuses on the recovery. They look for ways to heal as a family.
What I love about this story is that we got a lot of Ian Taggart in this story. Genny gets a job as his assistant. So we get to see Ian in action. We also see characters from the first 7 books. We also see characters from the Siren world. I love how the world is interconnected. We get a preview of upcoming books. We get a follow up on how some characters are doing.
This book is perfect if you have read the Masters and Mercenaries series and want to know how the characters are doing.
