on January 1st 1970
A spy who specializes in seduction
Kayla Summers was an elite CIA double agent, working inside China’s deadly MSS. Now, she works for McKay-Taggart London, but the Agency isn’t quite done with her. Spy master Ezra Fain needs her help on a mission that would send her into Hollywood’s glamorous and dangerous party scene. Intrigued by the mission and the movie star hunk she will be shadowing, she eagerly agrees. When she finds herself in his bed, she realizes she’s not only risking her life, but her heart.
A leading man who doesn’t do romance
Joshua Hunt is a legend of the silver screen. As Hollywood’s highest paid actor, he’s the man everyone wants to be, or be with, but something is missing. After being betrayed more than once, the only romance Josh believes in anymore is on the pages of his scripts. He keeps his relationships transactional, and that’s how he likes it, until he meets his new bodyguard. She was supposed to keep him safe, and satisfied when necessary, but now he’s realizing he may never be able to get enough of her.
An ending neither could have expected
Protecting Joshua started off as a mission, until it suddenly felt like her calling. When the true reason the CIA wanted her for this assignment is revealed, Kayla will have to choose between serving her country or saving the love of her life.
A Masters and Mercenaries Novel by Lexi Blake
OMG this book was everything!
First let me preface that I discovered Lexi Blake last year when I read her Lawless trilogy. Her books are a mix of action and romance. When I read her Lawless book, I became intrigue on the bodyguards in the series. At the time, I didn’t know they had their own series. It wasn’t until a few months later that I decided to check it out. Boy was I in for a treat.
Her Masters and Mercenaries series is about 15 full-length novels and about 10 novellas. Over the span of a month, I binged on all of the available books. They each pack the right kind of action with spies and intrigue and then the right kind of kinky romance with a touch of BDSM. Each couple is perfect for each other. I cannot say enough good things about this series.
I am thinking on re-reading them this summer that’s how good they are.
Flash forward to this week, when I found out I was selected to read an advanced readers copy of this book. I was beyond thrilled.
This is a long book about 450 pages which is amazing! It’s action-packed and the romance is on point.
This is the story of Kayla Summers my favorite double agent for the CIA who is now working with McKay and Taggart as a bodyguard. In this book, she is pulled to the CIA to do one last job as an operative for Joshua Hunt, a Hollywood superstar. Her target is to be his submissive girlfriend for a few weeks. until she get to the house of a drug cartel.
The story is full of twist and turns. There are things from Kayla’s past that come back to hunt her in the mission.
I love that Kayla is a sunny, happy person who loves romance books. I love that she is passionate enough to email authors her feedback on the story lines.
This can be read as a standalone. However, if you want to get the full experience I would recommend binging on the series. You can read all 15 novels without the novellas to get the full experience.
