I admit it I read Fifty Shades of Grey a few years ago and my opinion it was a terrible story. The books needed an editor to flesh out the story, character development. I had little to no experience with the BDSM so I wasn’t sure if it was done properly.
Over the past two years, I have read hundreds of romance books. There were two series that focused on BDSM that showed me what Fifty Shades of Grey was lacking. In Fifty Shades of Grey, there is little discussion about the role of the submissive, the power structure. BDSM was used as a prop as opposed to it’s own storyline.
Here are two book series that I believe get’s BDSM right when it comes to a romance book.
This is a 15+ book series of spies who practice BDSM. These books are action packed that are a thrill ride. The author fleshes out the BDSM for novices as she portrays characters who explore the lifestyle in various relationships. Most of these books are 4 to 5 star reads for me. Yes I have read them all.
My favorite character is Ian McKay. His book is number 4 in the series but he plays a major role as a character in most of the series as he is the owner of the BDSM club and security company.
This is a 6 book series of a May/December couple. They practice BDSM in their relationship. The book series tracks them from when they are starting to date until they get married and beyond. This is a 3 to 4 star book.
Book 1 is free on Kindle.
